Building Type: Art Pavilion
Status: Competition Entry, “The Art Fund Pavilion”
Site: London, United Kingdom
Year: 2009
This proposed Art Pavilion embodies the spirit of both crystals and art which equally inspire endless expression and interpretation. This project, like diamond cutting, carves out optimal angled planes to satisfy both aesthetic and programmatic means.
The Pavilion is made of Thirty Four (34) flat panels positioned at various angles. The façade has been divided into smaller segments to simplify the shipping, storing and assembly of this temporary structure.
In section, each panel is supported by one another under compression; forming a football-like loop configuration that makes the structure sturdy.
The exquisiteness of a fine crystal is in its deep and complex luster. One discovers endless expressions of the object depending on one’s viewpoint or the light source.
The proposed pavilion intends to magnetize a variety of events, artworks and people, with different interests and age groups, in an attempt to cultivate art into a realm of new discoveries.
